Creve Coeur Christian Church
Mending Broken Hearts
History
This is an abreviated version of the history of the CREVE COEUR CHRISTIAN CHURCH dated in a chronological order events that have impacted the life of the church.

1947 HUMBLE BEGINNINGS The first meeting of people wanting to start a Christian church in Creve Coeur was held in the home of the late Ralph & Katie Beam. The first worship service was conducted on December 11th in the basement community room of the Village Hall.

1953 A PHYSICAL IDENTITY The building was completed and dedicated on the corner of Park Road and Thorncrest Avenue.

1965 GROWTH NECESSITATES EXPANSION A new adjoining sanctuary was constructed and dedicated. The old sanctuary was divided into classrooms and offices.

1978 BEGINNING OF A LONG MINISTRY John Plunkett began ministering with the church in April and continues as the Senior Minister to this day.

1979 INFLUENCED BY CIRCUMSTANCES The largest employer in the area, Caterpillar, went on strike affecting a large part of the congregation. The leadership took quick action to guard against a negative financial affect. They implemented cuts in spending for printing, postage and cirriculum. The most significant cut was missions. The strike lasted two months.

1982 A NEW RESPONSE TO CIRCUMSTANCES Again, Caterpillar, was under strike. Again, the leadership took quick action, but in a positive way. Mission commitments were kept. The Food Bank was started. The church family pulled together and helped one another as described in Acts 2 & 4, helping one another with house, car and utility payments. There was new different spirit among believers.

1987 GROWING & EXPANDING AGAIN The new adjoining fellowship hall & eleven classrooms & two offices were dedicated

1989 ADDITION OF SECOND WORSHIP SERVICE Growth necessitated the adding of a second worship service

1995 PACE ESTABLISHMENT OF A CHURCH among a least reached people group. We began a relationship with Tom & Debbie Seckler in Cambodia to plant a growing self perpetuating church to reproduce throughout this country the size of the state of Missouri with 11 million, mostly unreached people.

1999 LIVING WATERS CHURCH BEGINS The result of this PACE project results in the beginning of this church.

2007 NEHEMIAH PROJECT BEGINS This project is named for the king's cupbearer who asked to return from exile to rebuild the walls around his beloved city, Jerusalem. We are in a three year rebuilding program of necessary repairs. $390,000 were pledged over the three years. Nearly one half of the money pledged was received this year.
